The 7 — King of the Table
The number 7 can be made 6 ways out of 36 — more than any other number. This is why the 7 dominates craps strategy. On the come-out roll, 7 is your friend (natural winner on Pass). After a point is set, 7 is the enemy (seven-out = lose). Every craps bet revolves around this asymmetry.

What the Probability Table Shows
For each craps bet, you’ll see four things: the number of ways to win, the number of ways to lose, the true odds (what the payout should be), and the actual casino payout. That gap between true odds and casino payout? That’s the house edge, and it’s how casinos keep the lights on.
Understanding Dice Combinations
Two standard dice create exactly 36 combinations. A 7 can be rolled six different ways, making it the most common outcome. A 2 or 12? Only one way each. Everything else falls somewhere in between.
This fixed distribution drives every probability on the table. There’s no way around it, no system that changes it, no pattern that predicts it. Each roll is independent.

How to Use This Reference
Before you place any bet, check two things here. First, what’s the probability of winning? Second, does the casino payout reflect those odds fairly?
If you’re eyeing hardways bets, you’ll see that a Hard 6 has a true probability of 1 in 11 (9.09%), but the casino pays 9:1 instead of 10:1. That difference gives the house a 9.09% edge. Knowing that before you push chips forward changes how you think about the bet entirely.

Bets with the Narrowest Gap
The closer the casino payout sits to true odds, the smaller the house edge. That’s why experienced players gravitate toward low-edge bets. Pass Line, Don’t Pass, and especially the free odds bet (which pays at true odds with zero house edge) sit at the top of the list.
